People are coming and going
From somewhere to anywhere
From countries to countries,
With a hope for a better life.
A dream to live
A better way of life,
And with the inspiration
From people from the past.
Our fight is still going
But now we are stronger!
Many suffered injustice
But nobody heard them cry,
They were just a Latino more
With no voice at all.
In the fields they worked
From sunrise till down
Because that was their only choice,
But now it is different
Thanks to those who fought.
Still now we don't appreciate
How hard it was
But we do know
Who we really are.

Wild Essay- Killing Ourselves
One of the things that are important for me is our environment. Nature is one of the most things that we luckily have but we’re destroying it. With the expansion of cities nature is becoming smaller. Pollution, global warming and extinctions are consequences of our carelessness on Nature. We all need to do something to protect and save Nature. Something small is better that nothing. Save ourselves means save nature.
With the advance technology that is around the world nature is being affected. Now the ozone’s cap has bigger hole in it and that lets the ultraviolet light toward us that affects our skin. Pollution is the main cause for this problem. Plants of pollution, Cars and fabrics pollute more and more causing many medical problems in our body. The air has high levels of carbon dioxide that affects our respiratory system. As we advance in technology we take over forest and convert them in cities or we just take what we need and leave. The contamination of the ocean and earth is a big issue. We have less clean water to drink and fewer trees that will give us air to breath. But who cares? People go around worry about their own life not about what’s around them. If they have to cut down trees so they can have a house they’ll be glad to do it.
We’ve seen in the news that global warming is dangerous and some say that it might be false but this is the time to prevent it. The weather is changing dramatically like in this past week. There were days that it rain and the sky was full of gray clouds and the next day the bright sun came out with a clean sky. Some days are really cold and the next day gets really hot. This change is proving of how the climate is changing. Throughout time many species are being extinct and many more are in danger of extinction. The massacre of animals has been around, an example of that are sharks that men are killing in the ocean only to get their upper tail and most of the times they throw the sharks alive to drown. However, most of us don’t care because it doesn’t affect us nor help us. Trees, plants and animals population is getting small and add that to the unnecessary waste of water, light and others sources that we take without any consciousness.
With all of these selfish actions, at the end, the ones that are going to be in danger of extinction will be human race. There aren’t going to be plants or animals that will feed us or protect us. Little by little we are killing ourselves by killing what’s around us. We may blame each other but we all have the fault for wasting resources and not doing anything to save nature. People rather have a big house and a cool car than an average house so it won’t take that much energy and a hybrid car so it’ll help the environment. Most of us waste everything thinking that there is enough to waste but at the end nothing is going to be left in Earth.
One way to compensate what we take from nature can be by planting seeds or taking care of plants that are already growing. For every fruit that we eat, we take the seeds and plant them so it can grow and be one more tree. Saving water, light and other sources can also help. And probably the most important thing to do is recycling. Recycle bottles, cans, paper etc and the best part for that is that you get paid for recycling! But most people aren’t doing a thing to save it; they just care about money and destroy forest without any concern. Nature is dying little by little and we are dying too with nature. At the end what will happen is going to be the consequences of our actions.

Academic Autobiography
First, the person that supported me was a friend that gave me political books to read. He has been the only person that supported me academically besides my teachers. Now, only my teachers support me and my girlfriends. I went to Pio Pico Middle School, which is located at Arlington and Venice.
My favorite subject is Dance because I get to learn new cultures and a little of history through dance. Also because it keeps me in shape and I learn new steps as well as dances. Besides dance, my favorite subject is Biology because I love to learn about nature and how it reproduces and works. One of my influential teachers is my Spanish teacher because he tells me the things straight without trying to make in soft. I personally like that because it shows you how important your problems are and the tone gives you the priority to solve them. Also he finds a way to talk to you and helps you solve your problems; he doesn’t solve them for you. Also my math teacher in L.A. High, he was the same but he gave me advices on how to study to do great on the test.
What I think I learn the most was on the lesson that my life skills teacher gave to the class. She told us her story, about her life, her education and the idioms that she speaks. I remember that she speaks about 5 languages and went to different schools to learn them and to learn about cultures but she decided that she wanted to teach and became a teacher. I think it inspired me to be interested in cultures and languages from other places. In the future I see myself in school finishing my nurse studies and dance studies. Getting a job as a nurse and if possible working as a dancer. Also If I get the opportunity I would like to study child development because I like that subject and I think it is very interesting and be a professional in that subject.
I really don’t remember at what age I learn to speak or read. I’ve passed all of my English classes with A’s and B’s so I think that is good. My grades have always been A’s or B’s, I don’t remember getting a C but maybe I did. My goals for this class is to pass it, to improve my writing and to learn what I need to learn, if possible learn more than necessary. What I expect from you as a teacher is that you have the patient to work with me but of course all teachers are patient so basically I don’t demand much.

My Reading Autobiography
First of all, I haven’t had a lot of reading in my life. My parents were always working so they didn’t have the time to spend in my reading. Most of the time, my family was busy so I had to understand them. I try to help them by not being an obstacle in their routines. However, I think I had a regular reading in my life thanks to my teachers and friends. Even thought I didn’t read too much it didn’t affected me that much either.
When I learn how to read, I tried to read all the books that I could. But most of the time I didn’t last with a book because I had no one to help me. I end up quitting because no one took the time to read with me. There were sometimes that my teachers helped me but they also had to help my classmates so I didn’t help me that much either but I understand it. I don’t blame them because they had things to do. I just didn’t read that much, and as a matter of fact my family had issues and they couldn’t be patient to improve my reading.
During elementary school I only read in class. My teachers read to us and sometimes pick us to read. We read about animals and nature. One of them was about a tree that during the spring wouldn’t flower till the end and because of that the other trees made fun of the tree. Besides that, I didn’t read by myself because I didn’t had someone to help me and to do it by myself didn’t worked. My reading back then was really short.
In high school I read a lot because of my English class, we read short stories but mostly books. The books that I read are “The House on Mango Street” It was about a girl that couldn’t live in one place and make friends in one school because her parents move too often to work. One that caught my attention was “Always Running” because it was about a man that wrote about his life when he was in a gang. The one that I liked the most was “In Cold Blood” by Capote. It was about two men that killed a family and were persecuted, capture and sentenced to death. This book is the one that I liked most because is based on a true story and the story itself is very interesting.
Honestly I don’t have that much time to read because I have other things to do around my home. But when I do read, the first thing that I do is sit in a quiet place and read. I do and finish everything that I need to do first in order to read in peace. Also sometimes my dog sits with me and he helps me concentrate in my reading. He sits there and just looks at me and fall asleep, I don’t know why but that helps me a lot. My reading preferences are simple. I like to read about crimes and fantasy but mostly about cultures and customs. But I am an open mind person and I’m willing to read anything, from fiction to science-fiction all the way to politics.
The people that inspired me are my teachers because the help me even when they had other things to do and didn’t had the time. All of then made it interesting. The person that turned me on reading the most was a friend. He reads about politics and other law books. He used to say that when you read a book, something from that book stays with you and that something is useful later in your life. Of course, it depends on the kind of book that you read but it applies to most of them. He used to tell me about the books that he read but they didn’t stay in my mind because they were mostly about politics and law.
Mostly I used to get books from my friend. He borrowed me books about everything but in the books there was always one about politic or law. Now I can get them in the library or I could just buy some books. Other than that I don’t get books because I don’t have time to read. I can barely get enough sleep so I just don’t have the time to read. I wake up at seven o’ clock in the morning and go to bed at twelve midnight and sometimes even at one pm. If I had the time I’ll read more often.
When I read, somehow I connect myself with the book. For example, when I read about teen pregnancy I just felt like there was no way that I would end up pregnant. Also when I read “Always running” I felt a little more mature because it kind of teaches a lesson to teens about gangs. But in Capotes’ book I felt like reading it over and over again. It caught so much my attention that I even saw the movie twice, even though the book was better than the movie. When I read I feel the excitement of learning something important or just to be satisfied with the book. Maybe the book changes me in a positive way. I just feel that when someone reads a book his or her life changes, not dramatically but in a small way.

Introduction
My name is Gabriela Nava Monica, I am seventeen years old and I’m a senior. Before coming to West Adams I went to Los Angeles High school and I also went to Pio Pico middle school. My favorite class is Dance because there is where I take out all my energy whether good or bad. I also act but not that much. I took drama 1A/B and then I did the play Zoot Suit. However I mostly like dancing, I even perform several times in school and once in Beverly hills-Hilton for MLA.
I also care about Nature even thought I am a consumer but at least I try to do something for it like planting plants. I am against war, any kind of war but especially if innocent people are dying and because bombs and other weapons destroy our environment. Also I don’t tolerate when people kill or make animals suffer for fun or for selfish profits. I love pets especially dogs because I have two, they’re mix poodles, one is 2 years old and the other one just turned 1 year. I only eat chicken, fruits and vegetables but I also eat a lot of junk food but not from fast restaurants.
I am a very quiet person but once I start talking I can’t stop and I do know how to control my self before it gets to that point. I’m responsible but there are times that I give up and I just don’t do anything. Mostly I’m open mind. I enjoy any kind of music except rap or heavy metal. My favorite depends of the mood that I’m in, it can be romantic one day and the next can be rock. I like horror movies, in particular if there are zombies in it but I also like other movies, pretty much all kinds of movies. I don’t do any sports but I do walk every morning to school from Venice and Western. I am kind of feminist and communist but don’t get scare I don’t believe in dictators.
Overall I’m hard to understand because my life is full of contradictions. Mostly I don’t mind if people are immature but when it gets to the point where I just can’t stand it anymore, I get out of the classroom for 5 minutes otherwise I explode. I mean, I just don’t understand why people can’t be mature when is necessary, is not that hard. I guess that’s how seniors saw me when I was in 10th grade. But anyways; I hope my experience in your class and with my classmates will be good or at least ok. If something from me bothers you, please let me know and I’ll try to find a solution to it.

Violence Essay
Violence is a big problem in our lives. There is violence in the streets, schools and in our own home. There is physical violence and psychological violence around us. Both of them are dangerous and have terrific consequences even though they are different. However, we care more about physical violence due to the visible marks.
Violence is everywhere, from streets to the privacy of our homes. In school kids fight for what they think is right, the most common reason is gangs or clicks. They fight to show that they are better and that their gang/click "deserves respect." Like one of my friend used to fight a lot just because they looked at her bad or that insulted her gang. It didn’t matter who she was fighting with, she just fought till one of them couldn’t take it anymore. That kind of violence affects people around violent people. Like for example, in home they just aren’t patient to do something or they just go out wondering alone or with other people. And most of the times they get in trouble.
Physical violence is the kind of violence that we see the most. When we talk about violence we think of people fighting whether with their hands or with weapons or knifes. The outcome of most of these cases is people getting injured or killed. Most of the time, this fighting’s proofs are scars, bruises or wounds and when we see this on a person we automatically think of violence. Physical violence is one of the most dangerous types of violence because it can lead to death. However, there is other type of violence that is as dangerous as physical violence but we don’t notice it at all and it has the same outcomes.
Psychological violence is probably the most common violence in our daily life. Psychological violence doesn’t have visible scars or wounds but they are in our mind. An example of psychological violence is when a parent is always insulting their kids. They tell them that they are worthless, they can’t succeed or wish that they could be like someone else or better. This kind of violence lowers people self esteem till the point that they believe it and sometimes they even commit suicide or at least try to. It affects all kinds of people and is doesn’t matter who the person is, it still affects that person. Everybody at some point is victim of psychological violence.
Fighting, stealing, killing, bad discussions and arguments are different kinds of violence but all of them have a solution. We just need to see through history to find that violence is a big issue. War is the perfect example but war always has an excuse to be violent -“Freedom”- that is supposed to be the reason of war. Overall, violence in general is affecting our life but the kind of violence that we can prevent is psychological violence by seeking for help. Violence is always going to be present in our lives but at some point we have to stop and think what we should do to prevent it. It isn’t going to disappear in three seconds but it is going to be less.
